1992年湖南医科大学病理生理学硕士研究生毕业；

1997年由美国波士顿大学医学院资助与湖南医科大学联合培养博士项目赴美国，先后在波士顿大学医学院和哈佛大学医学院作博士课题研究，并于2003年获生理学博士学位。

硕士毕业后任职湖南医科大学生理教研室讲师;

2004年受聘为匹茨堡大学医学院研究助理教授;

2005年到2007年在哈佛大学医学院完成博士后研究，2009年起任研究员;

2012年受聘湖南大学生物学院教授。

专长于药物药理和药效学动物实验研究，细胞毒理机制，细胞移植研究，干细胞分化及调控机制等研究。

在美国波士顿大学医学院作博士研究生，从事一氧化氮在心血管系统中的药理机制研究，首次成功地揭示了一氧化氮系统对组织因子途径的调节, 阐述了一氧化氮酶在细胞信号传导系统中对血管内皮功能的调节机制。该一重要研究发表在心血管研究领域著名杂志CIRCULATION 上。

任贝斯以色列医院和哈佛大学医学院博士后、研究员期间，主导胚胎干细胞分化和它们在心血管疾病中的应用及可卡因心肌毒理机制等项研究工作。成功地在体外由胚胎干细胞诱导分化出自主节律搏动的功能性心肌细胞, 并用于缺血性心脏疾病的治疗, 获得了良好疗效。

阐明了cAMP, cGMP和某些药物氧化酶在可卡因介导的心脏毒害中的调控机制。主导干细胞为基础的细胞治疗研究和细胞水平的药理,毒理机制研究, 以及胚胎干细胞分化的基因工程研究。成功地研制出一种细胞工程产品—-干细胞三维生长膜片, 其在实验性心肌梗塞动物模型上的应用取得良效。
